Reportage: "A mission given by God”

Elian, Elias, Linnéa and Noah are only a few of the about fifteen teens from Trollehöjdskolan in Mullsjö who come to the basement in a church in Mullsjö, Sweden, every Wednesday to meet with their New Generation group. What sets this group apart from most is the fact that they’re not allowed to meet or organize outreaches at their school. The school management has made that clear. Despite the opposition against them, the group endures and still believes that God can do great things through them.

- You can see it as your mission, a mission given from God, and if you don’t do it, who else will?, Elian says.

In one year the group has grown from five to fifteen people. As they’re not allowed to meet at the school they can’t hold any type of outreach, but that doesn’t stop them from meeting.

- We pray that we will be allowed to gather in school and that we will be able to share our faith with the students there. We pray for that every week, says the group leader Linnéa.

Many of the people who have joined the group aren’t christian, but have started coming to the youth services in church.

“You can see it as your mission, a mission given from God, and if you don’t do it, who else will?”

- This group makes a way into the church for non-believers, because it’s fun to be here and it’s just as fun on fridays. And that’s the goal, to get people into the church and lead them to the christian faith, says Elian and continues:

- Not everyone is christian who comes to the NG group meetings, but it’s amazing that they come. Then it’s still sad that we can’t show ourselves in school, because then it’s difficult to get people who don’t know that the group exists to join us.

The New Generation group at Trollehöjdskolan proves that whatever your circumstances and trials, you can achieve a lot. Despite the fact that they can’t show themselves as an NG group at school, they are growing in numbers and more and more of their classmates are joining them in church.
